Can kidney stones stay in your system causing constant pain?
I have had rught quadrant pain for years. Had tests for gall bladder;etc. I did have a kidney stone years ago. Can kidney stones get stuck somewhere that they don't move but cause constant pain? I had been at the hospital 5 times last year for a flat polyp in my intestines which was difficult to remove. I am tired of going to doctors; having tests, etc. Just want some feedback so I can do some research on what the cause of this pain is. FYI, I am a 58 year old woman and had a hysterectomy several years ago,
Kidney stones can get stuck at various points, but it would be unusual for a stone to stay in the upper ureter (where it would have to be to cause your pain) for that period of time without being passed or causing further damage. stones would more commonly get stuck near or in the bladder, or in the urethra. stones in the kidney itself shouldn't cause pain, but should show up on a simple x-ray, so that could rule that out.
There are various chronic pain syndromes, where the pain has no apparent cause or is out of proportion to an identified cause. This is also a possibility. Multiple abdominbal surgeries is also a possible cause of pain syndromes.
