My female cat is peeing blood!! Long story...please read below. HELP ME!!?
About a month ago I realized my female cat was peeing in random places, so I took her to the ER and they thought she had a Urinary Tract Infection. So,they treated her symptoms. She seemed to be getting better then a couple weeks later she started peeing blood, I freaked and took her to the Vet. She's been to the Vet twice in the past two weeks and she is still peeing blood. My vet said that she might have a kidney stone and put her on another antibiotic. He also said that he has known cats that just lived with this problem. Is this true?? I don't know what to do!!!! PLEASE, does someone know what to do in this situation???? PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!
It is time for a second opinion. Ask your vet for a referral to a Veterinary Internist.
X-rays at the very LEAST should have been done. Then an ultrasound on the bladder.
A culture and sensitivities should be done on the urine to check for bacteria.
There is also a problem that cats can get, as can humans. It is called Interstitial Cystitis. No one really knows what causes it. The Internist I used to work with saw several cats with it. There have been several alternative things tried on both humans and cats to help, with widely varying success. It's been 7 years since she and I retired. I don't remember what we tried. If it is a stone, it will show up on x-rays. If it is cancer, there MAY be cells that show up on a culture, but not always.
I would not sit by with the answers your vet gave you. Seek another opinion.
