kidney stones help?!!?

im 16 and male.
last week i was taken to hospital and they said i had a kidney stone, the stone is 5mm by 3mm. i had a CT scan and the results showed that it was just about to pass into the bladder but that was 3 days ago, and i was wondering how long it will take for me to pass the kidney stone? im not currently having much pain just little bits every now and again. also is it bad for my kidneys if i don't pass it soon? will it cause kidney failure or anything?

If you arent having much pain, thats because it's floating in the bladder. I've had them. Unfortunately for you, the worst is yet to come. Kidney stones are VERY painfull when they leave the bladder and enter the urethra (the tube that runs from the kidney out). They tend to bump along the walls (and the stones themselves are like hard sharp jagged crystals). You may get a little blood in your urine too. Are you on any meds? If not you may suggest Flomax to your doctor. It opens up the urethra some and therefore makes the stone pass easier. Good luck and have fun. My doctor actually told me kidney stones being passed are the closest (pain wise) that men will actually come to labor and delivery. Now you will see how we feel. LOL. And no, the stones will not cause kidney failure. As far as how long it will pass depends on you and how much you drink. The more water, the more you flush your system. Hope this helps....
