Is it possible for kidney stones to not be detected by an ultrasound?

I've been experiencing severe pain in my lower abdomen and then my groin for the past week, along with vomiting and fever. I've seen my doctor and been to the emergency room several times. An ultrasound has been performed, but a stone was not visible. The doctor says I have all the symptoms but without the stone being visible in the ultra sound, he is not able to confirm it. I just fear that since the stone was not visible, there may be something else wrong with me. Any thoughts would be helpful!
