My doctor told me to avoid coffee and tea for my kidney stone. What hot drink then I can have every morning?
First, have you passed a kidney stone that the doctor determined to be a calcium oxalate stone?
Because that's really the only reason to avoid those items which are high in oxalates, whatever the heck they are.
There are 4 different types of stones, one type is genetic and we won't worry about them, and then there's calcium (the most common), struvite (bacterial which are more common in women than men) and another kind having to do with acid.
Those with calcium oxalate stones are told to avoid coffee and chocolate. But if you have a different type of stone, that's not going to help.
You may be fine if you simply cut back on those items. And if you drink tons of water in addition, particularly right afterwards.
My own urologist is of the opinion that the best thing you can do is drink plenty of liquids to make your urine look like water. He told me not to bother changing my diet or to start supplementing with anything because in his opinion, most people are going to revert to their old behavior within a month anyway.
