Kidney Stones when take birth control pills, but if I dont take the b/c pills I wont have a period?
It seems each time my doc has started me up on a birthcontrol pill over the past 4 years I end up with bouts with kidney stones...but If I do not take the birthcontrol pill then I wont have a period. I have horrible skin breakouts allover face head neck ears chest back when i am not on my period. When I am not on my period I also feel better in general more energy and I weigh less and dont have hunger pains...but a few days after my period I start to feel bad again and the skin issues and weight gain/water retention and low grade fevers come back. Please help...my nurse practitioner is no help she doesnt know what to do..and insurance limits me and cant see any other docs..
It sounds to me like you could have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), and that's probably why your Doctor put you on the pill, to stabilise your hormonal levels.
Many women with PCOS tend to have kidney stones, whether they are on the pill or not; and at the moment, studies are going on to find out whether their is a link between the syndrome itself and the stones, or as a result of the pill.
The skin breakouts are because the pill actually helps to control acne.
It depends on your age, and social situation, and many other factors why your doctor wants you on the pill or not. You definitely can't stay on it forever. So if you feel better without it, ask your doctor to stop the prescriptions, let your body find its own rhythm, and get ready to cope with the acne break -outs for a couple of months before it stops.
