anyone else experience swollen kidney while pregnant?
in June, the doctors thought i had a UTI because every time i would wipe after peeing, there would be squiggles of blood on the toilet paper, but i had no pain or any other symptoms. they put me on antibiotics untill the lab results came back. well, they came back negative for a UTI, and i wasn't seeing any blood anymore. exactly two weeks later, on the 4th of July, my blood was bright red in the morning. it looked like watery blood. the color weakened through the day, turning to an orange color. i went back to the doctors, and still no positive results for UTI, so they sent me to get an ultrasound on my bladder and kidneys. they did not see any stones, but they noticed my left kidney is swollen and said that if i dont have more symptoms, to just wait until after i deliver to see if it just goes back to normal.
anyone else have anything like this?
I had similar problems. At 7 months I had bad pains in my right hand side and they tried to fob me off with round ligament pain. I refused to leave and told them that they were wrong. They finally did a urine test and although not visible to the naked eye, there was blood in my urine and I had a blocked kidney. The options were to try to continue to term, deliver the baby and then go right to surgery or have a stent put in and then have it removed after giving birth or surgery while I was pregnant. The urologist said that I probably couldn't go anymore than 2 or 3 weeks with the kidney as it was so I opted for surgery. I had a terrible time afterwards due to excessive bleeding from the kidney and had a catheter for 2 weeks to drain it off. I also think the anesthetic didn't help my son because all my check-ups had been fine and then after surgery, my stomach stopped growing completely. I actually carried him to term and had a c section but he only weighed 5lb. I'd get a second opinion from another urologist because it can become a major problem if the kidney starts to shut down. You have my sympathy - good luck!
